Public service has always been a priority to Mike Mackey. Over the years, Mackey has served on numerous boards and commissions, including 12 years as a Port of Chelan County Commissioner District #3. He looks forward to continuing to support the people of Douglas County and is dedicated to fostering community engagement and empowering citizens.
His mission is to create a transparent and inclusive platform where every voice is heard.
Mackey is a long-time resident of Wenatchee Valley. Loving husband to wife, Karen, father of two, and grandfather of seven, Mackey’s family is his priority. Mackey is a graduate of the University of Wyoming with a degree in Range Management and Natural Resources. Mackey owned and operated a successful hardware store in Chelan for 18 years.

Over the past 40 years, Mackey has served on numerous boards and commissions, including 12 years as a Port of Chelan County Commissioner. He has contributed to initiatives ranging from infrastructure investments to regional economic development. His involvement includes the Lake Chelan School Board, Chamber of Commerce, Chelan Downtown Association, and the Chelan Community Center planning committee.
Currently, Mackey continues his commitment to public service as a board member of the Chelan-Douglas Land Trust, where he advocates for thoughtful land use, transportation planning, and preserving the rural character of North Central Washington. He is also an active member of the East Wenatchee Rotary Club.
In addition to his time in public service, Mackey values his time as a small business owner, a hardware store that was located in downtown Chelan. In addition, he is no stranger to hard work. Mackey both fought fires on the front line and lead the teams of firefighters who were dedicated to ensuring the safety of the region. Throughout his career, Mackey has faced challenges head on, and he would do the same in his role as Commissioner.
“I’m running for Port Commissioner to help guide our region’s next chapter of growth in a way that balances economic development with community needs,” said Mackey. “We have an opportunity to create sustainable jobs, invest in smart infrastructure, and make our Port more responsive and transparent.”

Mackey is focused on driving sustainable growth in Douglas County, targeting a 2% annual increase in business activity, population, and workforce. He prioritizes attracting companies that bring or create well-paying, family-wage jobs.
With a successful track record of recruiting out-of-area businesses to the region, Mackey understands that business attraction requires available, move-in-ready space. He is committed to ensuring Douglas County can support companies of all sizes, including local startups operating from garages or temporary facilities.
Job creation, business recruitment, and infrastructure development are central to his vision. Mackey also sees expanding commercial air service as a top priority and is committed to maintaining general aviation facilities that meet the needs of both private and business aircraft.
He strongly supports recreation and workforce quality of life, including ongoing development of the local sports district. Mackey works closely with state and federal legislators to pursue opportunities that benefit Douglas County and is committed to leveraging Port resources for the greatest return to the community.
Mike and his wife Karen live in East Wenatchee. They have two grown sons and seven grandchildren. “Our family was shaped by the values of this community,” Mackey said. “I want to make sure future generations have the same opportunities.”

As an adult, he and his wife Karen moved to Oregon and then went on to put down roots in Washington. He was confident this would be a great place to raise a family, and he has not regretted a minute of their time here.
With a background in small business ownership, public service, and government employment, Mackey is confident he will be a worthy representative for the people of Douglas County. Whether it is his experience as a firefighter or a commissioner, his experience makes him uniquely qualified for this important position, and he looks forward to meeting the citizens of the valley and listening to their needs.
In Douglas County, Washington, a Port Authority Commissioner sets policies for the port's development and operations, guides its activities, and approves the budget. They also play a role in long-term planning, economic development, and public advocacy for the port.
